Consumer Communications

In order to qualify to receive branded one-to-one communications or enter one of USSTC's branded websites, an adult tobacco consumer must first certify that he or she is a tobacco consumer and 21 years of age or older. Our age-verification procedure is to obtain a legible copy of a valid government-issued identification that clearly displays the person’s name, address, date of birth and signature; and use electronic-age verification to compare personal information provided by an individual against public-records databases and other third-party data sources to find matching records that independently verify the personal information – confirming that the individual is at least 21 years old.

Our one-to-one consumer communications generally fall into the below three areas. Each requires that an adult tobacco consumer be at least 21 years of age before he or she can participate.

  • One-to-one Communications
    We use direct mail and email to support the launch of new products, invite adult tobacco consumers to events, announce brand promotions and deliver coupons and equity communications. To help execute one-to-one consumer communications, we maintain a secure database of qualified adult tobacco consumers that are age-verified and have told us that they would like to hear from us. A person may request to no longer receive further mailings from us at any time.
  • Consumer Websites
    Our age-restricted branded websites enable adult tobacco consumers to interact with our brands. Our brands use on-line communications to build brand equity, deliver news, and provide promotional support.
  • Consumer Marketing Activities
    We offer special occasion programs that reinforce brand equity, support the launch of new products, and deliver promotions to adult tobacco consumers. Each of these programs is held within qualified adult-only facilities and venues and entry is restricted to attendees age 21 and older. Attendees must show proof of age prior to entering.
