Our History - U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company

Our History
Our History
The evolution of U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company mirrors closely the explosive growth of the United States over the past two centuries. Copenhagen – the original offering of USSTC – remains today the company's foundation. One of the oldest branded products still in use in America, it has stood over the years as a lasting symbol of quality that is reflected in all the products we now manufacture.

United States Tobacco Company changes its name to U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company to more closely align with the company's strategic vision and more accurately reflect its distinct position in the tobacco industry.

With Altria Group’s acquisition of UST Inc., USSTC becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Altria Group, making Altria the owner of the premier tobacco companies in the United States. Altria’s other operating companies include Philip Morris USA, John Middleton, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Philip Morris Capital Corporation.
